Electronic Pre-Conditioning of Signal Inputs to an Optical Data Processor.

Abstract

A technique was developed to linearize the process of recording data on photographic film by use of diode function generators. A transfer curve showing the required relationship between signal voltage and modulating voltage was graphically determined and programmed on the diode function generator section of an analog computer. The validity of the technique was checked by plotting amplitude transmittance of a developed transparency versus the signal voltage applied to the light modulator during the recording. Data at temporal frequencies up to 100 Hz was recorded both with and without signal conditioning, and the results were analyzed. A power spectral density analysis of these recordings showed far less harmonic distortion in the recordings for which conditioning was used. (Author)
