Impact Pressure Distributions on Wedge-Shaped Hull Bottoms of High-Speed Craft.

Abstract

The report introduces a method of calculating pressure distributions on the wedge-shaped hull bottom of a craft subjected to slamming loads during its high cruising speed, for example, during the crash landing of a hydrofoil craft. The method involves dry- and wet-chines of a wedge-shaped body subjected to vertical impact as well as horizontal planing loads. Also included in the report are an illustration of the method, samples of test records expected from sea trials of high-speed craft, and comparisons of values estimated from the present method with those obtained from previous experimental results.
