Development of High-Temperature Continuous-Rolling Process for Forming Minimum-Radii Titanium Sections.

Abstract

The objectives of this program were to assemble a high-temperature continuous-rolling facility and to develop a process for producing typical airframe sections with 1T-bend radii. A return-flange hat and a return-flange zee were selected for development. Both shapes were to be formed from 6Al-4V and 8Al-1Mo-1V titanium alloy coil stock. Simulated production runs including part lengths up to 50 feet were planned to verify the process developed. (Author)
