High Energy Density Capacitors.

Abstract

Previous efforts were directed toward fabrication of 1.5-pound (lb.), 200-joule (J) 2500 volt (V) capacitors of withstanding 10,000 discharges into a 2 ohm load. Capacitors were built using three dielectric systems. Discharge life test data indicated that one of the systems, metallized polyethylene terephthallate, met the objectives of the contract. Capacitors were manufactured and tested. Efforts during this period included an analysis of the previous results. On that basis, an improved detailed program encompassing the manufacture of new sets of samples designed to better meet the overall contract objectives was set up. In addition to the manufacture of the new set of samples, their testing and the analysis of the new results were included in this period. (Author)
