Large Segmented, Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Rocket Motor Cases (TU-312 Rocket Motor Case).

Abstract

The primary objective of this Air Force manufacturing technology program was to develop manufacturing methods, controls, equipment, and processes for the fabrication of large (156 in. diameter) segmented, fiberglass reinforced plastic, rocket motor cases. A pinned, steel reinforced, tongue-clevis segment joint was selected as optimum for the specified application. Prior to full scale final design and fabrication, an extensive development testing program was completed. The knowledge gained from this full scale effort led to an improved manufacturing technology development and verification program. (Author)
