Tactical Situation Display Group AN/USA-26(V)1, Volume 1.

Abstract

The Tactical Modular Display project covered an engineering study of requirements for a general purpose modular display and the design and fabrication of an experimental model of the modular display. Volume 1 covers the design study of the modular display unit and further presents alternates for improvements and variations. The performance achievements and evaluation are covered in Volume 11. The experimental model of the modular display is a high performance flexible display unit which can be configured by the addition of a variety of functional modules to meet user requirements ranging from a high speed radar display with optional version incorporating target and vector tracking data to a full scale data management configuration. The unit features a high speed digital sweep (20 megabits per second, 12-bit resolution) comparable to an analogue indicator, 4.6-microsecond average character writing speed, and 10-microsecond positioning time per CRT diameter, with a low power deflection system. These characteristics are combined in a light-weight package of 75.4 pounds for the basic display unit suitable for a tactical environment. (Author)
