Acoustic Characteristics of the NOL Hydroballistics Tank,

Abstract

Acoustic measurements were made in the NOL Hydroballistics Tank to determine its acoustic characteristics. These showed that the ambient noise level is very high, due primarily to the filter circulating pumps. Reflection coefficients for the walls vary slightly with position, method, and frequency but mostly lie in the range from 0.8 to 0.9. The reverberation time for the tank was about 0.3 second. Possible remedial measures are discussed briefly. (Author)
