Engineering Test of Obstacle, Rapid Emplacement, Antipersonnel.

Abstract

The Obstacle, Rapid Emplacement, AP is a device for dispensing barbed steel tape and was developed to replace hand-emplaced hasty barbed wire obstacles. An engineering test of the obstacle was initiated at Aberdeen Proving Ground in November 1968 and terminated by USATECOM in May 1969. Test objectives were to determine if the obstacle was safe for service testing and if the obstacle satisfied approved Technical Characteristics (TC's); there were no approved USACDC requirements. Four of the eleven scheduled subtests were completed and four partially completed at the time of test termination. Nine of 21 obstacles functioned when tested.
