Speed Buffering and Digital Combining Techniques. Volume 1.

Abstract

This report is the Final Report as required by Project Mallard Technique study TSE-6 (Task Directive 11). It describes the results of a Literature Search and a theoretical Investigation supported by modelling, into the problems involved in Multiplexing a number of asynchronous high speed digital data streams. The different possible methods of overcoming problems created by asynchronism of the original data streams are compared and analysed, and details of tests on models of the most suitable systems - ADDED DATA DIGIT SIGNALLING and ADDED STUFF DIGIT SIGNALLING - are given. Details are also given of work on FRAMING, BIT SYNCHRONISATION, and of the design of DIGITAL DATA TEST SETS required in the testing phase. (Author)
