RF Combining for 'Down-the-Hill' Radio Links. Volume I.

Abstract

The objective of this technique support effort has been to study, determine and demonstrate an efficient method of combining/decombining four asynchronous wide-band data bit-streams for transmission over a single microwave/millimeter facility as required for MALLARD 'Down-the-Hill' radio links. The review and analysis of the possible techniques revealed that the use of two sets of orthogonal subcarriers for combining the bit streams into a single 'baseband' signal results in a lower RF generated power and does not require significantly greater RF bandwidth than any of the other techniques. This technique also requires the least circuitry, is versatile, and has advantageous operating features.
