Device 2-FH-4, Item 11.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to factually present, (1) the actual mechanical capabilities of Device 2-FH-4, (2) the subjective conclusions of the visual presentations, (3) a documentation of the experimental test results, and, (4) techniques employed in acquiring the tests. Device 2-FH-4 is a programmed aircraft simulator employing visual (Point Source) techniques. The observer, without controls, sits on a conventional seat and witnesses a complete helicopter or fixed wing aircraft preinserted into the programming elements. The projector assembly consists of a metal frame supporting a clear plexiglass plate. The visual illustration is created by projecting light from a point source through the transparency to a screen surrounding the observer. To create the effect of an aircraft translation, the plexiglass sheet is translated relative to the point source, while angular movements are created by rotation of the entire projector about the point source.
