Evaluation of a Proposed Electrolytic Method for Low Oxygen Determination in Refractory Metals.

Abstract

Work described in the report was undertaken to determine if a new method for trace impurities in refractory metals could be developed. The basis of the proposed method is the electrolytic dissolution of macro samples of refractory metals in a potassium fluoride - hydrogen fluoride medium. The gases generated by electrolysis are then analyzed for oxygen content by means of a modified Brady method apparatus. Design, construction, and operation of the various sections of apparatus used in the project are described, and the results of attempted analyses discussed. (Author)
