Shock Isolation Elements Testing for High Input Loadings. Volume I. General Program Summary.

Abstract

The design for advanced weapons systems require sophisticated data and analysis on the performance of shock isolator elements for the attendant severe environments. This program was comprised of an investigation of the performance of open-cell foams and selected mechanical elements subjected to transient or shock loadings. Urethane forms of densities of 6.0, 7.5, 8.3 and 10.0 pci were subjected to further test and analysis. An experimental horizontal test system was designed and built. The test system has provision for testing under vacuum as well as fixturing for the inclusion of one-half on mass. The one-half ton mass isolated by shock isolation elements is being evaluated and suspended on low friction guides. (Author, modified-PL)
