Shock Isolation Elements Testing for High Input Loadings. Volume IV. Appendix.

Abstract

The analytical-experimental investigation of shock isolation element response to high rate input loading required the use of an electro-hydraulic closed-loop test facility for experimental work and digital computation codes for the analysis. The electro-hydraulic closed-loop testing system designed to subject scaled isolator elements to full scale ground shock is described in detail. The test machine is capable of loading a 30 lb isolator system at a rate of 1200 in./min. Its static force maximum is 7600 lb and it has a 10 in. peak to peak stroke. Computer code descriptions, listings and examples along with a users guide are included for FOAMIS and ISOLATOR. These codes were utilized to determine the response of a mass to high rate input loading isolated with foam and mechanical elements respectively. The FOAMIS computer code utilizes the fundamental analytical model of the physical characteristics of foam developed during this study. ISOLATOR calculates the response of the mass isolated with combinations of springs, dashpots, coulomb damping, and various other isolation elements. A subroutine that uses a distributed mass model of mechanical isolators is included. (Author)
