Initial Production Test (Suitability for Issue) of Paving Machine, Bituminous Material, Crawler-Mounted, Gasoline-Engine-Driven.

Abstract

This Initial Production Test of Paving Machine, Bituminous Material, Crawler-Mounted, Gasoline-Engine-Driven, was conducted to determine the suitability for issue and safety characteristics of the paving machine. It was concluded that the paving machine: meets all performance characteristics to a degree which would permit satisfactory accomplishment of its intended mission assignment; meets all transportability requirements of MIL-P-335D except as indicated; is suitable for issue with respect to surface transportability; is easily maintained; can traverse over the beach in loose or wet sand for short distances; and cannot be easily transported by truck-tractor semitrailer combination in loose dry sand. It was also concluded that: the manufacturer's Operation and Service Manual and Parts Manual are adequate pending incorporation of appropriate safety precautions; a fire extinguisher must be provided; and the lifting and tiedown points are suitable for shipment by landing craft and for LOTS operations.
