Surveillance (PPI) Approach on Long Range Radar.

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to determine whether or not the long range radar (AN/CPS-6) will present accurate enough information, and in sufficient quantity, to permit PPI approaches under simulated IFR conditions of 500 foot ceiling and one mile visibility. Although long range radars are not designed to present the precision type of information obtained from a GCA scope or other short range gear, the runs made during this test proved that sufficient information is available whereby PPI approaches can be successfully made.
