Engineering Flight Test of an IR Suppression Kit Installation on the OV- 1B Aircraft

Abstract

The performance and flying qualities of the aircraft with the suppression kit installed was compared to that of the standard production aircraft. Additionally, the pressure loss, temperature rise, and vibration characteristics of the IR suppressor were measured. The performance and flying qualities of the OV-1 were not significantly affected by the suppression kit installation. The suppressor pressure, temperature and vibration data were forwarded to the US Army Aviation Material Laboratories for analysis in accordance with the US Army Aviation Systems Command's instructions.
