Second Source for Crossed-Field Amplifier QKS1567 C-Band Self-Modulated Forward-Wave Amplifier.

Abstract

The feasibility of a self-modulated C-band forward-wave crossed-field amplifier (QKS1567) to operate at 2 MW peak and 20 kW average output power was studied. A high power forward-wave anode circuit (liquid-cooled) of 65 active sections was built using a stub-supported double-helix circuit. A platinum emitting surface cathode incorporating a non-emitting bias electrode was used in the final tube assembly. Extensive cold-test studies of several slow-wave circuits resulted in a new circuit design not previously used. Its power handling capability was increased three times over the stub supported meander line circuit of the QKS1480. (Author)
