Investigation of the S34(p, Gamma) C135 Resonant Reaction Using Protons With Energies of 1875-2175 keV.

Abstract

Protons from an 8-Mev Insulating-Core Transformer (ICT) Tandem Accelerator have been used to bombard enriched targets of S34. High resolution gamma-ray yield curves of the S34(p, gamma(C135 reaction have been ontained in the primary proton energy range of 1875 to 2175 keV. Twenty-two resonances were observed, and intrinsic strengths were calculated for each resonance using a heretofore undeveloped computer analysis of the relative intensities appearing in the yield curves. Additionally, spectra of the 1893, 1901, 1928, 2007, 2073, 2096, and 2100 keV resonances were obtained using a 40 cc Ge(Li) detector. These spectra enabled a determination of the branching ratios of those resonances.
