Neutron Fluence in the Atmosphere from an Exoatmospheric Point Source of 14 Mev Neutrons.

Abstract

A method for obtaining an approximate two-dimensional solution is used to perform a 22 energy group calculation of the neutron fluence in the atmosphere resulting from an exoatmospheric point source of 14 Mev neutrons. Results are presented for a source altitude of 250 kilometers and for a source altitude of 500 kilometers. The results of the approximate two-dimensional calculation are compared with the results of a one-group two-dimensional cylindrical S sub n calculation and with a multi-group two-dimensional diffusion calculation.
