Acoustic Measurements in the AMRL Space Vehicle Environment Simulator,

Abstract

The Space Vehicle Environment Simulator is a one-man sealed capsule containing Project Mercury type life support equipment and a closed loop pressure system. The simulator will be used for pressure garment evaluation and tests of life support equipment. To accomplish these missions, there will be prolonged manned enclosures. In order that the subject can make meaningful, reliable observations (i.e., that the test subject is not distracted by an annoying nonobjective environment) and in order that reliable voice communication can be maintained between test subject and operator, the chamber should contain, within practical limits, minimal acoustic energy.
