Microwave Radiometer Measurement Program.

Abstract

Methods are given for determining the output of microwave radiometer systems. Measurements of the microwave brightness temperature and backscattering from terrain surfaces are described, and models for computing the brightness of a variety of surface types are reviewed. The effects of system parameters (e.g. beamwidth) and target properties (i.e. the definition of thermal centroid; the variations in background brightness etc.) on system performance are discussed and applied to a dual beam radiometer position finder.
