Electro-Optical Components Optimization Study Program.

Abstract

The report on the electro-optical components optimization study program discusses various aspects of low light level viewing systems, including human factors considerations, targets and backgrounds, atmospheric effects, natural and artificial illumination, effects of motion, optics, intensifiers, image tubes and preamplifiers, monitors and the various known sources of noise. Using this information, a mathematical model amenable to digital computer simulation is developed for both direct and remote view low light level systems. This model enables calculation of system weight and system signal-to-noise ratio versus light level and line frequency, using the characteristics of the system's components. The use of the model is illustrated. (Author)
