Investigation of Factors Affecting Small Turbine Efficiency and Loss Prediction

Abstract

The aerodynamics and mechanics of the high-temperature, low-mass- flow, low-aspect ration, axial-flow turbine are discussed. The problems of small size and resulting high secondary losses are considered, and approaches to improving efficiency are offered. In addition, experimental analysis of a turbine stator annulus (aspect ratio = 0.5) is presented, with recommendation for an accurate prediction of the losses in the small, high-performance turbine.
