A Small-Scale Fissuring Test.

Abstract

A small-scale fissuring test based on the use of propellant cast into thin-walled aluminum cylinders is shown to be satisfactory for simulating thick propellant webs. A stress analysis indicated that the use of thin-walled elliptical tubes practically eliminated cure and cool-down stresses. Experimentally, excellent agreement was obtained between the fissuring results from the small-scale specimens and from conventional cubes. (Author)
