Air-Sea Interaction: The Fluxes in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer.

Abstract

This report contains a description and a synthesis of the models of energy transfer in the atmospheric boundary layer above the sea surface. Formulae are developed for the evaluation of the fluxes of momentum, sensible heat and latent heat by the 'profile' and the 'bulk-aerodynamic' methods, using readily accessible and measurable parameters whenever possible. For the sake of completeness a new model of the transfer in a stable atmosphere is described and tested on the limited experimental material available on the subject. Finally the factors influencing the accuracy of the flux evaluation are analyzed individually. (Author)
