Simulation Research to Develop Objective Meteorological Prediction Capability.

Abstract

In the course of investigating the lowest kilometer of the atmosphere through analog simulation, two immediate needs became apparent. First, the inadequacy of a suitable wind profile in the surface layer of the atmosphere requires another look at the velocity and temperature profiles, and second, the extension of the horizontal area represented by the simulations necessitates some modification of techniques previously employed. A suitable method for horizontal extension of the model by the addition of partial atmospheric columns is described. In addition, a modified procedure for performing the static check on the GPAC is set forth. This procedure is expected to simplify check out of the surface energy balance section of the LLMM.
