Mud and Rock Anchor Feasibility and Design Study for Multi-Leg Mooring System.
Abstract
The report covers a description and results of the feasibility investigations, design studies, evaluations and the selection of the optimum mud and rock anchors for both the tactical and logistical facilities involved in the Tanker Multi-Leg Mooring System. The M50 and M200 explosive embedment anchors are capable of developing 50,000 pounds and 200,000 pounds, respectively, of restraining force in sand and clay bottoms, but cannot develop the required holding power in mud and cannot penetrate rock. The purpose of this study program was to investigate means to extend the Tanker Multi-Leg Mooring System to include mud and consolidated rock. Also included was an investigation of sub-bottom correlation systems to provide a means of predicting the holding power of the M50, M200, and the optimum anchors identified by this study in specific mooring locations.
