Laboratory Vision Tests of Military Aircrewmen. Part 2. 1967 Tests.
Abstract
This report describes a battery of vision tests that was administered to 214 military aircrewmen who were participating in flight tests being conducted by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It was intended that the vision test scores be used in a multiple-regression analysis with the field test scores to identify the general abilities contributing to success in visual target acquisition. Measures of binocular visual acuity, color aptitude, form discrimination, speed of identification, moving target identification, and visual response time were obtained. There was a significant correlation between the two measures of visual acuity (Snellen letters and Landolt 'C'), and both correlated significantly with the form discrimination scores. There was no significant correlation between the scores from any of the other tests cited above. Performance scores are given on the pattern discrimination test as a function of pattern size, shape, type (line-drawn or solid) and subject visual acuity. Data are compared with the 1966 results (Part 1 of this report) where possible. (Author)
