On the Merits of Using an Equation of State in Predicting the Creep Stability of Structures,
Abstract
Measured excursions in the history of creep at constant stress caused by small changes in stress are compared with predictions based on a Rabotnov-Shesterikov equation of state for creep. Good qualitative agreement is found, although the predicted values of creep excursion are an order of magnitude less than the measured values. A similar trend is found when comparing measured and predicted damping parameters, the quantitative differences being even more pronounced. It is concluded that a thorough examination of both theory and experiment will be needed to resolve the quantitative differences. (Author)
