Adaptive Data Modem.

Abstract

This report describes the technical effort performed in the design and development of an experimental model modem to demonstrate the applicability of waveform synthesis/analysis techniques to the area of digital data communications. A full duplex data modem was constructed which has the capability of operating at various data rates in a number of modulation formats over nominal 4 kHz high frequency (HF) or wireline channels. It can also be configured for compatible operation with a number of modems existing in the DoD inventory. The contractual requirements and actual operating characteristics of the unit are presented. In addition, the theory of operation, major design considerations, and detailed circuit descriptions are also discussed. Finally, the test procedures, along with the test data and curves of the acceptance tests, are included. (Author)
