Lightweight Broadband VHF Antenna Kit.

Abstract

The report covers the electrical and mechanical design and development of a Lightweight Broadband VHF Antenna Kit which covers the frequency range of 30 to 76 MHz. The radiating structure provides a vertically-polarized, omnidirectional radiation pattern in the azimuth plane with gain equal to or greater than a tuned quarter-wave monopole. Performance of the full-size engineering model is presented. In addition, mechanical design aspects of the radiating structure, a detailed weight analysis and a description of the spring motor mechanism for closing the antenna are included. Also included, are results of electrical, mechanical and environmental tests performed on ten Advanced Development Models of the antenna. Evaluation of this data indicates that all specifications requirements are met or exceeded by the final configuration. (Author)
