Time Division Multiplex; RADC Troposcatter Test Program.
Abstract
Experiments were conducted to determine the performance which can be expected for transmitting up to 1.228 mb/s of time-division-multiplexed binary data over troposcatter communications links. These tests were performed on path lengths of 100, 200 and 400 miles in New York State and in the Caribbean area. Radio Set AN/MRC-98 was used as the basic transmission system. The modem which generated and processed the high speed digital streams was of the binary FSK type and it was made to interface at the 70 MHz portions of the AN/MRC-98 in place of the FM/FDM modulator-demodulator/multiplexer-demultiplexer. The modem performance which was achieved is presented in terms of bit-error-rates (BER) for transmission speeds ranging from .307 mb/s. to 1.228 mb/s. The BER is also presented in terms of diversity, median received carrier power, and predicted performance. (Author)
