Electronically Tuned High Power Network.

Abstract

This report is composed of an initial study effort to develop electronically tuned matching networks intended for use with a VHF whip antenna in the 30 to 76 MHz frequency range. Two RF power capabilities will be considered, 10 watts and 100 watts. Usefulness of permeability tuned inductors, voltage variable diodes, permittivity tuned capacitors, and PIN diode RF switches is discussed. An analysis of permeability tuned, ferrite core inductors shows the relationship between RF flux, Q, power dissipation, frequency, and core volume for these applications. A discussion of ferrite inductor linearity is also included and yields a relationship between flux density and intermodulation products for a specific core geometry. Finally, a series of graphs gives the measured Q and inductance of two ferrite inductors versus DC bias flux and frequency. (Author)
