Microphone Coverings for a Helicopter Mounted Acoustic Locator.

Abstract

An investigation was initiated for the purpose of finding a microphone covering which would not attenuate noise signals significantly and which would provide protection against moisture, dust or other conatminatio. The microphones are mounted in an airfoil pod which is attached to a helicopter as part of an acoustic locator system. As a result of the investigations, a suitable covering was developed which consisted of thin mylar covering over a supporting disc with many chambered holes. Results of the investigations are presented. (Author-PL)
