Mass-Spectrometric Studies of Graphite Vaporization at High Temperatures.

Abstract

The preliminary beam tests on the recently completed high-pressure beam system-mass spectrometer are described. The initial system for RF heating of graphite disks up to 7/8 in. diameter is described. A correlation of all of our past data on the extent of dimerization of pure gases in free-jet sampling is presented. It is not apparent what behavior is to be expected for metals or carbon. Experiments to be performed with silver and carbon are described. (Author)
