LF to VHF Shipboard Direction Finding Research

Abstract

The purpose of the work was to design, develop, and evaluate prototype DF antennas, special DF techniques, and DF calibration circuits which provide practical state-of-the-art solutions to the shipboard direction-finding requirements in the HF and low VHF range. Prototype DF systems and calibration techniques are to be evaluated in a realistic reradiation environment at the SwRI ship simulation site. Experimental results will be combined with fundamental theoretical analysis to provide detailed recommendations as to the optimum DF system for specific Navy DF requirements.
