Design of Microfilm Acquisition, Storage and Retrieval System for Solid Propellant Mechanical Behavior Data.

Abstract

The report contains the results of a microfilm system design study which has as its primary objective the establishment of a standardized microfilm system for acquisition, storage and retrieval of raw physical properties data generated during solid propellant research and development programs. The proposed system was designed to be economical, convenient and non-burdensome with a simplified automated tabulating system to facilitate data handling. Some factors taken into consideration before arriving at the final design were: state-of-the-art, availability of equipment, availability of service bureaus, indexing requirements, incidence of retrieval, physical characteristics of raw data formats, techniques for comparative analysis, data exchange requirements, and interrelated data requirements. The types of data and tests for which this system was designed were consistent with those found in the Interagency Chemical Rocket Propulsion Group (ICRPG) Solid Propellant Mechanical Behavior Manual (CPIA Publication No. 21, September 1963).
