Anisotropy and Elasticity of Reinforced Materials,

Abstract

A general theoretical estimate of the anisotropy and elasticity of reinforced materials has been carried out and followed by an analysis of data from the testing of epoxy-thiokol and thiokol-reinforced fabrics. Results show that reinforced materials can be theoretically viewed as homogeneous orthotropic objects with the orthotropy depending on the reinforcement approach, and that the elastic properties of reinforced materials are a direct function of the elastic properties of component materials. The influence of the elasticity of resins on other elastic constants is discussed in conjunction with the features of the joint fiber-resin action mechanisms. The reinforcement technology has also a considerable influence on the elasticity of reinforced materials.
