Initial Production Test of Welding Machine, Arc, General and Inert Gas Shielded, Transformer-Rectifier Type, 300 Amperes.

Abstract

The initial production test of the welding machine, arc, 300 amperes was conducted to determine conformance of the test item to a test plan and military specification requirements. The results show that the welding machine met all of the specified requirements with the exception of three significant failures which consisted of a safety hazard due to the location of certain controls located near exposed circuits, the inability of the machine to operate continuously in a +105 F or a +120 F ambient environment and a structural failure that occurred during the laboratory vibration test simulating transportation in a 2-wheeled trailer. It is concluded that the controls under the front panel that are located near open circuitry should either be relocated or the exposed circuitry be covered, a more efficient cooling system is needed to insure operation at high temperatures, and that major structural changes are necessary to meet requirements for transportation in a wheeled vehicle.
