Mercury Launch Vehicle Working Group. Flight Test Report. Mercury/Atlas MA-8 (Atlas Missile 113D).

Abstract

The Mercury/Atlas MA-8 was launched from Complex 14, AMR at 0715:11 EST on 3 October 1962. The Atlas Missile 113D served as the launch vehicle for the Mercury Spacecraft. The primary objective of the flight was to place a Mercury Spacecraft, containing an astronaut, into a prescribed orbit around the earth. The spacecraft completed six orbits and landed in the primary recovery area. The spacecraft with Astronaut still aboard was retrieved by aircraft carrier about 40 minutes after landing. (Author)
