Spectrum Occupancy in the HF Band.
Abstract
Measurements made in support of submarine-communication systems development indicate crowding of the hf spectrum in California comparable to crowding previously observed in the British Isles. It is shown that other-user interference has over-shadowed atmospheric noise as a design factor. Amount of other-user interference is shown to be dependent upon antenna characteristics. Apparent spectrum occupancy can increase significantly when a vertical monopole is substituted for a corner reflector antenna which has a nominal 90 degrees main lobe and is of the same polarization.
