Round Robin No. 30 of the ICRPG Working Group on Analytical Chemistry: Particle Size Analysis of Nominal 20- to 30-Micron Ammonium Perchlorate with the Mine Safety Appliances Analyzer.

Abstract

A study of a method for measuring the particle size distribution of finely ground ammonium perchlorate was conducted. The primary objective of the study was to determine the suitability of the method for use as a standard specification procedure by evaluating its precision. Single analyses of two different ammonium perchlorate samples, having weight median diameters in the range of 20- to 30-microns were made by each of nine laboratories, by use of the same liquid sedimentation technique and equipment. The random error within laboratories and the systematic error among laboratories were resolved, and confidence intervals were placed on the determination of specific surface areas and weight mean diameters.
