Preseated Seal Concept for AFRPL Connector Seal Retention.

Abstract

As the AFRPL connector has been demonstrated, many comments have been generated concerning the difficulty of using the connector in a field assembly without having the seal retained in the seal cavity. Field assemblies, unlike laboratory assemblies, are often performed under very strenuous limitations and the seal is vulnerable to damage to its sealing surface if the seal is not retained in the flange seal cavity. The new approach presented within this report accomplishes seal retention by preseating the seal in the flange cavity and uses the connector's nut to protect it from damage. (Author)
