Temperature Shock Test of a Two-Inch Bolted Flange Joint.

Abstract

The Battelle Memorial Institute-developed flange design procedure was converted for use with the IBM 7040 computer. The flange design program was used to design a two flanged fluid tubing joint for use with a line mounted liquid fluorine shutoff valve. The flange was fabricated, prepared for test, and subjected to a series of temperature shocks. No measurable leakage was noted after five temperature shocks averaging 131F/minute with a maximum temperature gradient of 350F/minute. (Author)
