Electron Beam Analysis Techniques.

Abstract

The selection of the Litton Industries L-3767, P-band crossed-field amplifier for use in demonstrating the feasibility of analyzing cross-field electron beams is discussed. The use of these amplifiers (three were obtained and used) in the fabrication of a test facility is described. The development of prototype and final versions of a miniaturized atomic beam generator and the probing results obtained are discussed. Although interactions of the atomic beam and the crossed-field electron beam were observed, the results obtained with this technique were, at best, marginal. The interaction of the electron beam with ambient gas at a pressure in the 10 to the -8th Torr range is described. (Author)
