Structure-Medium Interaction and Design Procedures Study. Volume IV. FEAT Code User's Guide.

Abstract

This report presents the information necessary for the standard operation of the FEAT (Finite Element Analysis Technique) code, which was developed for the determination of loads and motions of buried structures. The basic solution method and the computation procedures followed is described in the First Technical Report (AD-863 248). This code enables the user to solve wave propagation problems involving linearly-elastic structures embedded in a non-linear, elastic-plastic medium which may be layered and have compacting and tensile cracking characteristics. The interface surface between the structure and the earth medium can also debond or slip. The mathematical model of the medium may be subjected to force and/or displacement time dependent boundary conditions. (Author)
