Integrated Engineering and Service Test of 60,000 BTU/HR, 60-Cycle and 400-Cycle Compact Horizontal Air Conditioners.

Abstract

This report summarizes the engineering and service subtests of the model MC60HAL4-208 and MC60HAL6-208, 60,000 Btu/hr horizontal compact air conditioners. The test was conducted in accordance with procedures set forth in the USATECOM approved integrated engineering plan of test for this materiel which included tests to insure the physical, performance, and maintenance characteristics under all climatic conditions except extreme cold. Both models of this air conditioner met the requirements during the following subtests: initial inspection and operation, physical characteristics, safety evaluation, cooling capacity, air-flow characteristics, high-temperature storage and operation, low-temperature storage and operation, salt-fog, sand and dust, rain, radio-interference suppression, fungus resistance, maintenance evaluation, humidity, vibration, human engineering, durability, and reliability. The 400-cycle model failed the sound-level test (deficiency) while the 60-cycle model passed. During the durability test (although the criterion was met) five deficiencies were found. Recommendations are included as to the action considered necessary on all deficiencies and shortcomings.
