Development of an Improved, Lower Cost Olive Drab Solar Heat Reflecting Enamel.
Abstract
Six experimental solar heat reflecting olive drab enamels were formulated to improve the cost effectiveness of the current specification enamel MIL-E-46096. These were evaluated against TT-E-516 and MIL-E-46096 enamels and found to meet or exceed the requirements. Exterior exposure studies conducted at the Panama Open Field Site showed the experimental enamels had improved color permanence over both TT-E-516 and MIL-E-46096. An experimental formula which offered a 20% cost reduction and better color retention than MIL-E-46096 was adopted for inclusion in MIL-E-46096. (Author)
