Commercial Ethyl Acrylate-Acrylic Acid Copolymer Evaluation.

Abstract

Two samples of ethyl acrylate-acrylic acid (EA-AA) copolymer received from commercial sources were evaluated extensively and found to be entirely acceptable for use in propellant systems. A number of potential vendors were supplied with raw-material specifications, a recommended copolymer formulation, and a recommended manufacturing procedure. Two vendors responded, one following the recommended procedure and one using a different procedure. Both samples were analyzed and then evaluated in a standard propellant formulation. The results obtained with both samples compared favorably with those obtained with copolymer produced at these Laboratories. A discussion of analytical procedures employed with EA-AA copolymers is presented. A computer program for calculating intrinsic viscosities is included. (Author)
